If you are studying in New Zealand, you should have student health insurance.
This helps you pay for the cost of doctors, medicine, and sometimes dental or eye care.
If you are sick, injured, or need medical help, you may be able to get your money back.
This is called making a claim.

Step 1 – Check Your Insurance Policy
Your policy will tell you:
What is covered (for example, GP visits, prescriptions, emergency care).
What is not covered (for example, cosmetic surgery, some dental work).
How much money you can get back.
Tip: Keep a copy of your insurance policy in your email or your phone.
Step 2 – Go the Doctor or Pharmacy
When you see a doctor, dentist, or other medical service, you will need to pay first.
Ask for:
An invoice or receipt (this is proof you paid).
Any medical notes or prescriptions.
These are important for your claim.
Step 3 – Fill Out the Claim Form
You can get a claim form from:
Your insurance company’s website.
The insurance company’s email team.
The form will ask for:
Your name and policy number.
The date you got treatment.
The reason for the visit.
Bank account details (so they can send you the money).
Tip: Our staff at LSNZ are happy to support you with this if needed.
Step 4 – Send Your Claim
Most insurance companies let you send claims by:
Email (scan or take photos of your documents).
Online portal (upload your form and receipts).
Post (send copies, not originals)
Step 5 – Wait for Payment
Claims can take 5 to 10 working days.
If the insurance company needs more information, they will email you.
Extra Tips
Always keep your receipts until you get paid.
Make your claim as soon as possible after treatment.
Ask LSNZ staff for help if you are not sure what to do.
