Why Study English in New Zealand?

New Zealand is a great place to study English.

The country is beautiful and safe, and the education is high-quality. You can enjoy nature, learn about a new culture, and do many fun outdoor activities.

Classes are taught by experienced teachers, and you will meet students from many different countries. Schools also offer strong support to help you live and study well.

Steps to Finding Your Perfect Language School

1. Know Your Study Goals

Think about why you want to study English.

Do you want to improve your speaking? Get ready for an exam like IELTS or PTE? Learn Business English?

Also, think about what else is important to you. Do you want to experience Kiwi culture or work part-time?

When your goals are clear, it is easier to choose the right course and school.

Tip: LSNZ offers free advice to help you choose the best course for your goals.

2. Choose Your Ideal City in New Zealand

Every city in New Zealand is different. Choose one that matches your lifestyle.

Auckland

The biggest city in New Zealand. Great if you like shopping, nightlife, and city life.

Christchurch

A quiet, green city on the South Island. Good for students who want a peaceful place to study and enjoy nature. Christchurch is also more affordable than larger cities like Auckland and Wellington, making it a great choice for budget-conscious international students.

LSNZ has a campus here. You can visit gardens, art galleries, and ride a boat on the Avon River.

Queenstown

A small, exciting town with a very famous lake. Great for students who love sports, adventure, and nature.

At LSNZ Queenstown, you can study English and enjoy fun activities like hiking, skiing, and more. There are also many part-time job opportunities in this tourist town.

Important Things to Check Before You Choose a School

Once you've decided on your preferred city, it's time to select a specific language school.

Here are the most important factors to consider:

NZQA Accreditation

Make sure the school is approved by the New Zealand Government (NZQA).

Category 1 schools are the best. If you study at a Category 1 school on a student visa, you can also work part-time (up to 20 hours per week).

From 3 November 2025, the work limit will increase from 20 to 25 hours per week, giving students more flexibility to gain experience and support their living costs while studying in New Zealand.

Both LSNZ Queenstown and Christchurch are Category 1 schools.

Courses

Choose a school that offers the course you need.

LSNZ offers a wide range of courses, including:

In Christchurch campus, we offer a holiday programme for young learners!

Class Hours

Check the class times. Some schools offer morning or afternoon options.

LSNZ gives you flexible class times to fit around your schedule.

Student Mix

It’s great to study with people from different countries.

You can learn about other cultures and make international friends.

LSNZ welcomes students from many different parts of the world; over 35 different nationalities have been students with us!

English-Only Policy

Some schools ask students to only speak English on campus. This helps you learn the language faster.

LSNZ strongly supports an English-only environment at school.

Class Size

Smaller classes mean more chances to speak and ask questions.

At LSNZ, classes always have no more than 18 students.

Cost

Check if the course fits your budget. Compare the cost with the quality of teaching and support.

You can contact LSNZ to ask about current fees and special promotions.

Accommodation

Where you live is also important.

Homestays help you practice English with local families.

Our student accommodation lets you meet and live with other international students.

LSNZ Queenstown offers both options, and LSNZ Christchurch offers homestay only.

Activities and Support

Look for a school with fun activities and strong student support.

LSNZ helps with:

  • Visa applications

  • Opening a bank account

  • Finding part-time jobs

  • Local advice and emergency help

They also organise many different social events and activities, so you can practice English and make friends outside of the classroom.

Why Choose LSNZ?

LSNZ has campuses in Christchurch and Queenstown.

It is a Category 1 NZQA-accredited school, with great teachers, useful courses, and strong student support.
